2024-25 Siletz Valley School Board Goals and Benchmarks 

2024-25 SVS Board of Directors Adopted Goals and Benchmarks:

 

  1. Using grade level benchmarks and student work K-12:
    1. Student skills will be assessed by teachers, parents, and by students themselves.  
    2. 90% of students will show growth toward grade level benchmarks each quarter. 
    3. Students, Parents and Staff will complete surveys two times a year. (Title I, Youth Truth) 
  2. Increasing learning opportunities for grades 8-12 that explore post-secondary options
    1. Expand Dual credit offerings in CTE programs
    2. Offer dual credit coursework at OCCC for grades 11 and 12
    3. Explore career connections and opportunities in Siletz
    4. Include real-life, hands-on learning opportunities at every grade level.
    5. Develop in-house Alternative Education Program (Options)
    6. Teach students elements of Google platform for assignments to be processed and completed (Spreadsheets, Docs, Meets, Slides, AI etc.)
    7. Explore Retention incentives for activities like SMILE Club. (Tribal incentive programs)
  3. Building a Strong Inclusive Community 
    1. Engage Family and Community Council as a conduit for information to share with the Board. (The Board will coordinate participation to ensure compliance with Meeting Law.) 
    2. Create Community Work Sessions: 
      1. Joint meeting with Tribal Council - 
      2. Community Work Session-City Hall, Fire and Law Enforcement. 
      3. Strengthen Connection to LCSD and engage with LCSD Board in Bond development in order to obtain necessary bonds fund to sustain Siletz Valley School facility.
  4. Providing Transparent Program Information and Support for Parents Helping Students at Home
    1. Written Program Information - Annual Plans K-5
    2. Written Course Descriptions and Teacher Classroom Expectations
    3. Updated Parent/Student Handbook
    4. Curriculum Night to review information with parents.
    5. Staff recognition program
    6. Volunteer and Community recognition program (Provide Awards at Open House?)
    7. Increase dialogue and communication to build relationships. Utilize all possible multimedia to promote school, and inform the public of events and activities.
  5. Staff Growth Opportunities:
    1. Staff will be evaluated every year. An evaluation calendar will be provided to the board. 
    2. The Board will evaluate the superintendent/principal quarterly on progress toward Board Goals
    3. Staff will be provided professional growth opportunities 2-4 throughout the year, providing staff with a process for requesting additional high-interest training that is beneficial to the school. (Place process in staff manual.)
    4. Some training should have an emphasis on hands-on project based learning
  6. Additional forms of accountability for the school that creates innovative measurement tools which demonstrate growth in the above board goals.

Mission/Vision Statement

 

The Siletz Valley Charter Schools’ mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and transparent educational environment that empowers students to become productive, engaged members of society.  We are committed to fostering full inclusion, nurturing each child's unique potential, and preparing them with the skills and knowledge to thrive in their future pursuits.

2022-23 Siletz Valley School Board Goals and Benchmarks

1. Increase student learning and achievement:

  • Benchmarks:  Using an adopted formative assessment,  testing 3 times a year, 80 % of  the students will increase overall scores by 5% in each testing window

2. Increase choices of learning opportunities for students:

  • Benchmarks:  Counseling and Administration will offer at least 4 campus visits to local Community Colleges, Universities and trade schools
  • Siletz High school will increase dual credit opportunities to at least 2 course offerings 
  • Benchmark:  Enroll 15% of all high school students in college/post-high school preparatory courses

3. Better meet individual student academic needs and interests:

  • Benchmark:  Offer student survey twice per year with open ended questions to express their academic interests
  • Benchmark:  Create an academic interest plan to meet the needs of our students based on the survey.

4. Build stronger working relationships among educators, parents and other community members:

  • Benchmark:  Utilize at least 5 avenues to increase parents and community communication: ie. weekly newsletters, social media, one call, text, printed signs,  etc.
  • Benchmark:  Hold at least 1 in person activity per quarter  to increase parents and community engagement: ie. parent nights, open houses, programs, etc.

5. Encourage the use of different and innovative learning methods:

  • Benchmark:  School will increase opportunities for more diversified learning methods by utilizing school and community resources providing at least 1 or 2 more enrichment courses per year K-12

6. Create new professional development opportunities for teachers:

  • Benchmark: School will offer at least 2 monthly opportunities for both classified and certified staff to increase best practices based on individual staff evaluation goals.

7. Establish additional forms of accountability for school and create innovative measurement tools:

  • Benchmark:  Monthly Board reports to include Financial, attendance, behavior and academic and testing reports.
  • Benchmark:  Monthly/Quarterly reports to board of Student/Family/Staff surveys that are sent throughout the year.
